What is the main product released during the light reactions of photosynthesis?

During the light reactions of photosynthesis, the primary product released is oxygen. This process occurs in the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplasts, where sunlight is absorbed by chlorophyll and other pigments. The energy from sunlight is used to split water molecules (H2O) in a process known as photolysis. This splitting of water releases oxygen as a byproduct into the atmosphere.

In addition to oxygen, the light reactions produce energy carriers, such as ATP and NADPH, which are utilized in the subsequent dark reactions (Calvin cycle) to help convert carbon dioxide into glucose. However, the main and immediate product that is released into the atmosphere from the light reactions is indeed oxygen.
